Venture Capital Trainee – Deeptech

We are a premier early-stage venture capital firm based in Zurich, dedicated to backing the most ambitious deeptech founders across Europe. We invest in transformative technologies focusing on Energy & Industrial Resources, the Future of Computing & AI, and Frontiers in Bio & Health. Equipped with a new flagship fund, we are looking for a highly driven, analytical, and highly connected Trainee to join our investment team within the Future of Computing & AI pillar.

You will be the engine of our deal sourcing, deal execution, and community footprint. Your core mission is to work with the rest of the Investment Team to discover and evaluate the next generation of category-defining deeptech startups, while actively expanding our network within top-tier academic and research ecosystems.

This is a paid six-month on-location internship. We hope to have the best trainees join our full-time Associate career track at completion of the internship.

Key Responsibilities

Ecosystem Building & Networking

  • Research Connections: Actively build and nurture relationships with local and international research communities, leading universities (e.g., ETH Zurich, EPFL, and global equivalents), and tech transfer offices to uncover proprietary, spin-off deal flow.
  • Active Networking: Immerse yourself in the deeptech ecosystem. Represent the firm at academic conferences, industry events, hackathons, and pitch competitions.
  • Community Cultivation: Help build and maintain a thriving network of scientists, future founders, co-investors, and technical experts who can act as sounding boards and deal sources for our firm.

Deal Sourcing & Evaluation & Deal Execution

  • Thesis-driven sourcing: Conduct deep-dive research into deeptech markets to further develop our internal investment thesis and use this to actively source and screen startups and founders.
  • Full Deal Lifecycle: Bring deals to the IC and to a successful close alongside the Investment Managers.
Optional: support in building out AI-based workflows around the investment process.

Who You Are (Competencies)

  • Scientific Foundation: Strong academic or technical background in natural science, AI, and/ or engineering, genuine interest in the deeptech ecosystem. Examples include backgrounds in Physics, Computer Science, or Software Engineering.
  • Computing & AI Affinity: You have at least some affinity for or background in the Future of Computing and Artificial Intelligence (AI) fields, enabling you to quickly grasp next-generation technology pitches and engage credibly with technical founders.
  • Natural Networker & Ecosystem Builder: You genuinely enjoy connecting with people. You can speak the language of scientists and researchers just as fluently as you speak with investors. You are comfortable, articulate, and credible when representing the firm in front of high-net-worth investors, LPs, and visionary founders.
  • Experience: Any prior experience in a startup, big tech company, or the venture capital field is a plus.
  • Exceptional Attention to Detail: Whether you are drafting an investment memo, enriching a database, or coordinating an investor round, your work is precise and error-free.
  • Independent & Results-Oriented: You thrive in a fast-paced environment. You do not wait to be told what to do; you find solutions, build your own network, and deliver tangible results.
